“SCARLET WINGS” – is a musical-show for spectators aged from 14 to 114 years old. Young production group took a challenge to stage this touching story of love, filled with beauty and magic. It was, however, interpreted through the prism of their own perception of the world – youthful and modern. “A Musical Extravaganza” is how this piece of art described – the action, in which a fairytale and dreams are intertwined with reality and modernity. Thus, the parallel can be made with one of the biggest issues of the modern world – the spread of both true and false truths via internet, social networks and television. This is the attempt of the young generation not only to understand the remarkable story created by Alexander Grin, which is literally “shone through with a morning sun”, but it’s also a desperate call to discover the answer for a heart-burning question – is it still possible for us to keep that “sun” in our hearts, nowadays, in a world filled with so much different thoughts and ideas? Are we capable of singing Hallelujah to the LOVE and listening for the generations of our fathers and mothers, who carried the faith for SCARLET SAILS in hearts throughout their lives?…
An excerpt from the interview with Kamilla Adburakhmanova, director of the show: The main idea of our production is to unite the classic novel of A. Grin with a modernity, which is close to youth of today. Knowing on my own practice the attitude of today’s youth toward a fairytale genre (fantasy, sci-fi), I was scared by the thought of a young viewer thinking the following after the curtains close – “Sure, it all was well-done, beautiful and positive… but Scarlet Sails ain’t happening in the real life, no way…” Or even something of this kind – “If only I had the fortune just like Grey possessed or owned a Ferrari… but all this is just a dream, nothing more than that!”. So we were determined to make that idea not just sound as some kind of a moral lesson but turn it into a real manifest or a call for action: “Go and make your own miracle! Yes, you are capable! Yes, you can! Yes, right here and right now!” We wanted to make a clear parallel between the world of dreams and the present world so the contemporary settings would elevate the spirit of miraculous dreams to the state of ‘reality’ and ‘possibilities’. And even more – we’ve tried to create such an atmosphere, where each would recognize themselves, that’s why here we have conversations filled with urban slang, stuff related to our daily routine, jacked up conflicts and a search for our own identities. All this was done for guiding our viewers – so when the next time someone enters some bar they would remember Scarlet Sails not for its beautiful way of interpreting a fairytale (which we all are “supposed” to believe in, somehow, on someday), but for its message, it’s idea of ‘being capable of doing anything, anywhere, anytime’ without having to possess enough finances, in a world where the youth is so aggressively attacked by all those apps, programs, internet, social networks, all those places where it’s immensely hard to figure out what’s truly important and actually matters, in a world, where a romantics and sentimentals are often laughed at, where young people simply hide their sensitivity and vulnerability behind the masks of so-called “satisfaction” and “carelessness” just out of fear of getting once again hurt or misunderstood. We are speaking up to you – exactly in this world, among all this modernity you CAN MAKE YOUR OWN MIRACLE, HERE AND NOW!
